Lena K. Barton, 105, formerly of Rosedale and Gassaway WV, passed away June 1, 2013 at Genesis Health Care Center in Glenville WV.
She was born at Davis Creek, Kanawha County, a daughter of the late Peter and Martha Toten Mooney.
Lena started working for the WV Committee on Aging and worked for 20 years for the Senior Companion Program. She drove her own car until she was 92 years of age when her eyesight caused her to quit.
She was one of 10 children and is survived by one brother, Carl Mooney of Chesapeake WV; one grandson, Robert Barton of Titusville Florida as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Howard P. Barton whom she married on May 7, 1924; and one son, Ray Barton.
Lena was an active member of the Braxton Senior Citizens and was a member of the Silver Haired Legislature, the Red Hats and the Order of the Eastern Star, Gassaway Chapter. She was a charter member of the Braxton Memorial Hospital Axillary.
Funeral services were held at the Rosedale United Methodist Church with Elder George Rose officiating. Interment was in the Rosedale Cemetery. |
