Spencer's Wal-Mart was held up Saturday night, causing fear in store employees and customers.
The man went to a cashier and demanded money, and got away with a yet to be released amount of cash.
It was not clear if he had a weapon.
Roane County Sheriff's Department said the robbery happened about 7 p.m.
Channel 13 News said a woman who witnessed the incident won't forget the experience. She was at a a nearby cash register checking-out.
Police are saying they have a suspect, a man visiting the area from New Jersey.
They say the suspect stopped at a nearby gas station after he left WalMart.
Police are saying they expect to make an arrest.
The Wal-Mart robbery followed an incident last week where a duo reportedly attempted a robbery at a farm implement store on US 119 in Roane County.
After a police chase that ended in Kanawha County, they were arrested.
