CEDAR CREEK PARK TO HOST 'GILMER COUNTY ON THE MOVE' SATURDAY

GLENVILLE, W.Va. - Gilmer County on the Move, Walking Groups Challenge II members are challenging members as well as friends and neighbors to get a little exercise and help celebrate the American Hiking Society's National Trails Day at Cedar Creek State Park on Saturday, June 1, 2013. Cedar Creek State Park is located near Glenville.

Jeff Campbell, Gilmer County's Economic Development Associates Health & Wellness Committee chair and project coordinator of Gilmer County on the Move said "We're proud to hold this event for the first time and invite anyone to join and be active - walk the park grounds, hike one or all seven trails at Cedar Creek State Park, bike, paddle boat, swim, play basketball, tennis, volleyball, softball, or go bird watching. You can bring your dog on a leash."

The day is two-fold. The first 100 Gilmer County on the Move Walking Group Challenge team participants who turn in their first six-week walking log will receive a 2013 GCOM t-shirt. Maps and trail guides as well as water and snacks will be available. Apple Shelter is the group's base for June 1 activities at Cedar Creek State Park. Additionally participants walking or hiking may also record and submit miles walked on June 1 at Cedar Creek State Park as part of National Trails Day involvement. The state park system participates in the American Hiking Society's nationwide campaign by encouraging self-paced hikes or taking advantage of guided hikes. Log cards are available online at   www.wvstateparks.com   click National Trails Day. Log cards are also available at the park office or check-in areas. Individuals submitting a hiking log will receive a certificate of accomplishment and a trails day patch.
