Driver extracted by Calhoun responders after car catches on fire

A woman driver with three children in her vehicle narrowly escaped after her car crashed Sunday and caught on fire on Rt. 16 near Orma.

Quick action by a motorist with an extinguisher put the fire out, eyewitnesses saying flames were showing underneath the vehicle.

Motorists managed to remove three children 5, 4, and a few months old infant in a car seat, after spotting the flames.

The car went out of control on the highway, traveling down a ditch line before it crashed.

Sources at the scene identified the driver as Mary Morris. She was trapped in the vehicle and was extracted by firemen from the Arnoldsburg and Upper West Fork VFDs.

The injured driver was taken to a nearby landing zone by Minnie Hamilton EMS, where she was life-flighted to a Charleston medical center, the extent of her injuries not available.

The three children were taken to a Charleston Hospital by MHHS EMS for treatment for what appeared to be minor injuries.

Sgt. O. S. Starsick of the Grantsville detachment is investigating.
