The West Virginia Department of Veterans Assistance said investigations are being made regarding poor service at the $26 million West Virginia Veterans Nursing Facility in Clarksburg, following a request by Governor Earl Ray Tomblin.
West Virginia State Senate President Jeffery Kessler (D) said the legislature cannot turn a blind eye to the allegations.
The problems surfaced after WBOY-TV issued a series of reports about conditions at the facility.
Stephen Newlon, a nursing home resident and Vietnam Veteran, alleged that the facility was retaliating against him after speaking out with surveyors about the poor quality of care at the facility due to staff shortages.
The facility had a long list of problems before it finally opened.
