REGIONAL NEWS HIGHLIGHTS - New Gilmer Hotel, Rural Counties Losers With Development Money And New Wildlife Plate |

GILMER MOTEL PROPOSED - A group of Gilmer businessmen are planning on erecting
a new $2.5 motel and conference center, even though the state economic
development agency did not provide funding. The large three-story complex could be built along Route 5 at Mudlick, and would have 60 rooms, a restaurant and other facilities. The project is based on a need associated with the new federal prison. ROANE PROJECTS NOT FUNDED - Two Roane County projects have been cut in the distributing of the state's $130 million economic development fund. Proposed, the Bogg's Field airport project and money to complete the industrial park, totaling $11 million. NEW WILDLIFE LICENSE PLATE - It is a white tail buck surrounded by West Virginia foliage and stream. It is now available for $55, of which $15 goes to a wildlife diversity fund. The plate is renewable for $45 a year. USDA GRANT CAN HELP FARMERS - The state has received another $1.7 million in federal funds to fight erosion, improve air quality and enhance wildlife habitat. The U.S. Department of Agricultural grant now totals $2.9 million. Farmers can apply for assistance. WIRT BOARD ELIMINATES ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL - The Wirt County Board of Education has eliminated the assistant vice principal's position at Wirt County High School.
