Based on academic, athletic and civic achievements, Jacob Tanner has been selected along with 20 others as a member of the 2013 Ohio All-Star Wrestling Team. He will be competing at the 85 pound weight class for the team on a 52 day cultural exchange during the summer of 2013.
Now in its 31st year, the Ohio All-Stars are one of the most respected youth wrestling teams in the country. This year's team will consist of 21 of the top 6th-9th grade wrestlers from Ohio and the eastern United States. Since 1983, more than 600 top young athletes have competed as a member of this team. Trip alumni have gone on to win over 180 NCAA, National, and State High School titles.
This year the tour will run from June 15th and last thru August 6th. The tour will begin with a week long training camp where top clinicians will work with the team to prepare them for the trip. Following the camp, the team will depart out west to compete in dual meets against teams from Wyoming, Idaho, Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Colorado, Utah, and Canada.
Jacob believes that this summer's experience will result in improvements in both his wrestling skills and his ability to face top notch competition in pressure situations. He also feels that this experience will help him in daily life by making him a more mature and confident individual. He is looking forward to facing the best wrestlers in the country and plans to work hard to represent Ravenswood and West Virginia's youth to the best of his ability.
Jacob is the son of Kevin and Deanna Tanner of Millwood, WV. His maternal grandparents are John David and Sharron Stump of Grantsville, WV. Paternal grandparents are Frances and the late Albert "Gale" Tanner of Arnoldsburg, WV.
In order to make this trip a reality, each wrestler must raise $4500. Over the next couple months, Jacob will be conducting fundraisers and visiting area businesses seeking donations to cover his part. The Ohio All-Star Team and Ravenswood Youth Wrestling Club (RWYC) are both 501(c)(3) organizations so all donations are tax deductible.
If you would like to help Jacob achieve this goal, donations can be sent to:
Jacob Tanner c/o RWYC P.O. Box 294 Ravenswood, WV 26164 or Jacob Tanner 2531 Pleasant View Ridge Rd Millwood, WV 25262. Make checks payable to: Ravenswood Youth Wrestling Club (RWYC) or Ohio All-Star Wrestling Team.
