He was born in 1946 in Charleston, but spent most of his adult life in law enforcement in Roane County.

He was a retired conservation officer with the WV-DNR and had been a law officer in Roane County.

Cummings was in the Marines during Vietnam and was an E-7 in the WV National Guard.

He was a member of numerous military, historical and gun-related organizations, and was a member of the Walnut Grove Community Church in Calhoun.

He is survived by his wife Jo, father of Randy, Julie and Rob.

His ashes were buried in Morgantown.
