Zadok Noel "Poppy" Connolly Jr., 81, of Parkersburg, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home, April 15, 2013.
He was born April 5, 1932, in Grantsville, W.Va., a son to the late Zadok Noel and Rhoda Ruth Belford Connolly. He graduated from Calhoun County High School in 1951, and following school he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving from 1952-1956. He was a radioman in the Korean Conflict. Following his service, he married Violet Lee McNeill in 1957. He loved bowling, Mountaineer Football and Basketball, and following Nick Swisher's Career. He retired from Fairmont Supply.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Melba Haught; nephew, Benji Haught; and grandson, Cade Viers. He is survived by his wife, Violet Connolly; son, Denny Connolly (Cher Shaffer) of North Carolina; daughters, Pammy Mayhew (Mike), Kimi Connolly (Jimmy Vincent) of Parkersburg, and Melba Viers (Chris) of Lubeck; brother-in-law, Jim Haught; grandchildren, Brooke Connolly, Michele Mayhew, Jamie Mayhew, Mandi Caplinger (Josh), Hayden Viers and Danielle Viers; great-grandchildren, Lilli Connolly, Evelyn, Eden and Kingston Caplinger and Braeden Giddings; along with many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Parkersburg. There will be a graveside service with Veterans Rites by American Legion Post 15, 1 p.m. Monday, April 22, at Sunset Memory Gardens. |
