Garnett Hensley Suits, 100, passed away Monday, March 25, 2013, at the West Virginia Masonic Home in Parkersburg, W.Va.
She was born Jan. 9, 1913, in Catlettsburg, Ky., a daughter of the late William Earnest Ruby and Ida Mae Mansfield Ruby. Garnett was a graduate of Marshall University, and belonged to the University of Women Sorority and the Alpha Delta Cappa Sorority. She was a retired teacher of 32 years. She taught at Putnam County, Kanawha County, Taylor County and Calhoun County schools in West Virginia, and was a substitute teacher in Puerto Rico. She also belonged to Order of Eastern Stars in Nitro, W.Va., and was the oldest member of the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in Huricane, W.Va.
She is survived by a son, James Hensley (Mary) of Little Hocking, Ohio; grandchildren, James K. Hensley (Heather), S. Bruce Hensley (Patty), both of Belpre, Ohio, and Karen Henthorn (Rod) of Fleming, Ohio; great-grandchildren, James M. Hensley and Justin M. Hensley of Belpre, Ohio.
Step-great-grandchildren, Marisa and Ethan Henthorn of Fleming, Ohio; step-son, Robert Suits of St. Albans, W.Va.; step-daughters, Linda Stone of Virginia, and Barbara Starling of Hurricane, W.Va.
Step-daughter-in-law, Betty Hensley of Winfield, W.Va.; Garnett Gill, Roger Hensley, Ann Smith, Butch Hensley, Tim Hensley and Teresa Conley, all of Winfield, W.Va., Joan Williams, Bill Hensley, Janet Zaprzal and Joyce Hensley, all of Buffalo, N.Y.; and several other step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Garnett was preceded in death by her first husband, Benjamin A. Hensley; her second husband, Fred H. Suits; her parents; one brother; one sister; five step-sons; and three step-daughters.
Funeral services were held at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in Hurricane, W.Va., with Pastors Ron McClung and Lee White officiating. Burial will be in at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery, Hurricane.
