Although it doesn't feel like it, spring gobbler season is quickly approaching. Opening day is on April 22nd.

Last year, we were well into spring with lots of green foliage at this time. Yesterday morning, I woke to a frozen 17 degrees at my Nicholas County home. We currently do not have any foliage.

Ramps are up in Calhoun. While visiting my parents on Easter Sunday, I was pleasantly surprised to find the wild leaks over 6 inches tall. I dug a few handfulls to use in eggs, as a pizza topping, and in a fresh salad. The largest ramp festival in the world will be April 20th in Richwood, WV.

River temperatures are in the mid-40's and fish are becoming more active. I know of smallmouth bass and muskies being caught. Now is a wonderful time to catch larger fish as they add weight for their upcoming spawn.
