Calhoun Middle-High School is sponsoring a teen based health and awareness day "It Does Matter" on March 27
It Does Matter is being presented with assistance from WVDE, Minnie Hamilton Health System, Westbrook, RESA 5, Calhoun Substance Abuse Coalition, and the US Attorney's Office Northern District.
This event will allow students to hear from experts on a broad range of topics. The day will consist of large group presentations and small group sessions of student choice.
Middle School students will be presented information on safely navigating social media and how proper diet and activity can affect their grades. High School students will have presentations on distracted driving, understanding social media, and how drug addiction can ruin a life.
A few of the sessions students may choose from are: Personal Story of the Impact of Substance Abuse, Surviving Teen Depression, Peer Relationships, Coping with Loss and Grief, Breaking the Tobacco Habit, Dating Challenges, Hunting and Fishing in WV, First Aid, Healthy Eating/Energy Drinks, Water Safety and Rescue, Synthetic Drugs, and Healthy Relationships to name just of few of the 24 different sessions available to students.
Various groups and organizations will also set-up informational booths for students to visit during lunch. Booths will allow students to access additional information as they cannot visit all of the sessions during the day.
The presentations and sessions are open to parents during the day. This will be a great opportunity for parents to obtain information and contacts on a wide variety of subjects.
Participants during the day will be eligible to win a Kindle Fire. Two devices will be given to high school students, two to middle school students and one to a parent participant.
