Okey Jean Young, 86, of Little Creek Road, Frozen Camp, West Virginia, went to be with the Lord, he was a Christian, on March 12, 2013 following a heart attack, at the Jackson General Hospital, Ripley.
He was born February 18, 1927, at Linden, the son of the late Okey Mack and Mary Louise Moore Young. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his oldest son, Okey Jean Young, Jr.; five sisters, Vae Sheppard, Tressie Simmons, Grace Gandee, Zanna Young and Delva Young; four brothers, Oval Ray Young, Lewis Milton Young, William Clay Young and Robert Young.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Mary Ellen Sawyer Young; sons and daughters-in-law, Lewis Allen and Debbie Young of Sandyville and Ray A. and Kathryn Young of Frozen Camp; three grandchildren, Leslie Michelle Young and her boyfriend, Mickey Swick, Heather Courtney Smith and her husband, Josh Smith, Shawn Kyle Young and his girlfriend, Lindsay Greene.
He was a retired sheet metal worker and a certified welder of Sheet Metal Local #33, Parkersburg. He was a U.S. Naval veteran from the battleship U.S.S. Missouri, BB-63, with the rank of Fireman.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to Dr. Swann, the nurses and staff at the Jackson General Hospital.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 16 in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Justin S. Simmons officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be in the Clover Cemetery, Clover. Friends may call two hours before the service on Saturday.
