FLOODPLAIN MANAGER ANNOUNCES WIRT COUNTY 'MAKE IT SHINE' DAY

(03/04/2013)
Elizabeth, W.Va. - Wirt County Floodplain Manager Bo Wriston is proud to announce that Wirt County will be participating in the annual West Virginia Make It Shine Program with a countywide public spaces clean-up on Saturday, April 13, 2013.

West Virginia Make It Shine is a two-week annual statewide program sponsored by the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection. Citizens from each county volunteer to help clean public spaces, rivers and streams in an effort to beautify and "Spring clean" our state. Wirt County has never before participated in the program, but that changes this year.

The Wirt County Commission and Floodplain Manager Wriston would like to extend a formal invitation to every citizen of Wirt County to volunteer a minimum of 1-2 hours on Saturday, April 13 to help make Wirt County the cleanest county in the state.

Free gloves and collection bags will be provided, so all that is needed will be volunteer's time and love for our county.

Areas to be cleaned include the courthouse complex, Sportsman Park, the Wirt County Wetlands, the Wirt County Shooting Range, 4-H Camp Barbe, Boy Scouts Camp Kootaga, church cemeteries, local community buildings, and areas along the Little Kanawha river, and other rivers/stream banks.

Once collected, all debris will be transported to Sportsman Park for disposal by the DEP and Waste Management.

For more information and to learn how you or your group or organization can volunteer to participate, please contact Wirt County Floodplain Manager Bo Wriston at 304-629-3735 or via email at   wirtcooes@gmail.com
