Olaf E. Hicks, 86, of Newton WV, died Thursday, February 7, 2013 at the Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Ivydale, after an extended illness.
He was born July 1, 1926 at Newton, a son of the late Henry Edward and Sabina Jane Boggs Hicks. In addition to his parents, he was precede in death by his wife, Annie Elizabeth McClain Hicks, 1990; two daughters, Sandra Lee Hicks and Kathy Rae Mitchell; four sisters, Ruby Hicks, Orva Rogers, Velva Jarvis and Thelma Bailey; six brothers, Earl, Lemon, Darrell, Don, Paris and Dillon Hicks.
Olaf was a retired automobile mechanic and auto body shop repairman. He was a member of the Uler United Methodist Church and a lifelong resident of Roane County.
Survivors include sons, Danny Edward Hicks of Newton, Steve Hicks and wife Sherry of Harrison, Jerry Wayne Hicks and wife Laura of Harrison; daughter, Cheryl Sue Dean and husband Bob of Charleston; 11 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 11 at the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with Pastor Danny Taylor officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Hill Cemetery, Elana. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
