It was Eighth Grade Night at Calhoun Middle School and the four eighth graders on the Red Devils' roster were honored.
Before the game got under way Zack Yanero, Chris Thornton, Jerry Jones and Christopher Kirkland and their parents were honored in a pre-game ceremony.
But once the ceremony ended and the game got under way it was another story as Clay posted a 56-30 victory.
Clay Middle School jumped to a 19-7 first quarter lead and pushed it out 35-18 at halftime. The Mustangs continued to pound the Devils with a 14-6 third quarter before battling to a 7-7 tie in the fourth quarter.
Mason Clark led the way for Clay with a game high 21 points.
He was backed by Reese Nichols and Levi Ramsey with seven each while Zach Dorsey added six. Zach Myers and Gage Childers had four each while Isaac Workman chipped in with three and Jole Walker and Zach Wynn had two each.
Thornton led Calhoun with 12 points while Yanero added eight. Jerry Jones had five, Sonny Wilson three and Ben Frederick two. Kirkland and Buck Marks both played but did not score.
Clay also won the B game, beating Calhoun by a 42-2 score.
Alex Grose led Clay with nine while Nate Canfield added eight. Isaac Cayton and Thomas Haverty had seven each while Luke Burdette had four, Caleb Wynn three and Jole Cruckshanks and Mike Willis had two each. Eli Osborn also played but did not score.
For Calhoun Brady Fox had two. Levi Gregory, Marks, Aaron West, Jaron Hall, Ryan Miliron, Johnny Walker Jakiah Hickman and Nolan Nelson all played but did not score.
Calhoun Middle School is idle until traveling to Geary for the first round of the CWVAC tournament Feb. 18.
