Ruth Anne James, 70, passed peacefully in her sleep on January 24, 2013 at the home she shared with her sister Mary and Ernie Gum in Salem, SC since 2005. Prior to that she was a resident of Sand Fork WV for many years.
Born May 18, 1942, at Nicut, WV, the daughter of the late Paul G. Bishop and the late Gathel King Bishop. She was a graduate of Sand Fork High School and Glenville State College.
She was a retired high school teacher with over 30 years of service in Gilmer and Braxton Counties. She was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening. She was active in local and state politics and had served as chair of the Gilmer County Republican Party. She was member of the Foothills Community Church in Seneca SC.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Elizabeth (Travis) Cochran of Sand Fork; grandson, William 'Billy' Cochran of Sand Fork; sister Mary (Ernie) Gum of Salem SC; brothers Arden (Viola) Bishop of Glenville WV and David Bishop of Sand Fork.
She is preceded in death in addition to her parents by her husband, William B. James, and one sister, Ermal Harris.
Funeral services will be held Monday January 28, 2013, 11:00 am at the Stump Funeral Home in Arnoldsburg with Rev. Rick Metheney officiating. Burial will follow in the King Cemetery at Nicut. Friends may call from 5:00-7:00 pm Sunday at the funeral home.
