State Police have filed domestic violence charges against Calhoun commissioner Kevin Helmick, 32, and his wife Jennifer Helmick, 30, of Nicut.
Kevin Helmick called 911 on January 16, reporting that his wife had left the house with the couple's infant daughter, saying she had been "drinking and taking pills."
Police located Ms. Helmick several miles away with the child at a relatives residence at Shock, Gilmer County.
A criminal complaint filed by Sgt. O. S. Starsick charged Kevin Helmick with battery and Jennifer Helmick with assault. They appeared in Calhoun Magistrate Court Thursday and were released on bond.
The criminal complaint says, "Both Jennifer and Kevin stated that the argument started about Jennifer drinking alcohol earlier in the same day."
Kevin Helmick, after filing a restraining order against his wife, was given temporary custody of the infant child.
Jennifer Helmick reportedly filed a restraining order against her husband.
Police have responded to several domestic incidents at the residence with mental hygiene orders issued to commit Jennifer Helmick to a facility for treatment.
The case is set for a hearing in March.
