Beyond business with a site selection of an emergency service building for Calhoun
and the maintenance and development of Wayne Underwood Field, the Calhoun
Commission had a lengthy agenda at Thursday's meeting.
The agenda covered:
The Back Fork/Yellow Creek Water extension is on track, although rumors in the
community have been reported it is stuck again. Bids for the project could be let as
early as November, 2002.
A Governor's Partnership Grant to replace a sewer line from Minnie Hamilton Health
Care Center to Route 5, a project costing $30,000.
Calhoun's Dog Warden Ron Gordon expressed continuing concern regarding animal
control problems, having insufficient funds to deal with all the calls. Gordon will
return to the Commission with a priority list, which will influence what types of calls
he will respond to.
911 Director Barry Pitts, accompanied by 911 committee member Tom Fox, report all
county roads have been named. Mike Johnson requested a name correction from
Perkin's Run to Bennett's Mill Road, which was approved.
The Commission approved a $25,000 grant contract to place a roof on the facilities
building at the Calhoun Middle/High School athletic complex.
A grant for the Calhoun County Tobacco Prevention Coalition of $15,000 was
processed.
Approval for the Little Kanawha Area Development Corporation to apply for $100,000
for a micro loan program to assist small businesses in Calhoun and Wirt County. with
funds to be administered by the Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Council.
Jason Nettles was appointed Calhoun Flood plain Manager. Mitigation plans are to be
submitted.
Commission approved several election items, designating numbers and types of
election boards.
Owen Friend of Ritchie County was advised to present a petition to the Commission
requesting a water line extension from Smithville to Burnt House.
A lease agreement was approved with the West Virginia Supreme Court regarding
rental space in the court house for the Family Court at $6.00 per square foot.
A change of scope on recreational funds for the Calhoun County Park was approved,
which allowed for the purchasing of equipment.
A request to paint game boards in front the the courthouse for children waiting on
school buses was denied because of liability concerns.
A review of the Budget Control report was completed.
The Commission processed bonds, bills, wills, settlements, orders and erroneous tax
assessments.
The next Commission meeting will be on September 9, because of the Labor Day
holiday. |
