Currently under production, Jessica Cosgrove will have her original one-act comedy entitled, "I Think I Like Soy Things," performed in Philadelphia during the Equinox Play Festival from January 25-27, 2013.
Cosgrove, a senior at the University of the Arts (UArts) in Philadelphia, has just started her final semester. Although training as an actress, Jessica's love of writing can be traced back to winning the young writers contest in elementary school, as well as subsequent years. Jessica is pursuing a Bachelors of Fine Arts with a creative writing minor.
While taking a play writing course, Jessica was encouraged to enter one of her plays in a competition for the Equinox Play Festival. Cosgrove's play was only one of three plays selected. The play can be seen at the Caplan Studio Theatre at UArts.
Cosgrove is a self-described, actor-combatant who enjoys writing short stories and plays, as well as choreographing stage violence. She is certified in unarmed, knife, rapier, dagger, and broadsword stage combat by the Society of American Fight Directors.
Cosgrove has performed in a number of plays while attending school in Philadelphia, most recently as Bernice Niemeyer in Edna Ferber's "Stage Door" and as Younger Sister in "Vivir Mejor," written and directed by Adriana Lopez.
Cosgrove's love of performance started at the age of 9, when she started training in dance at Heartwood in the Hills. At Heartwood, she expanded her interest in acting and mask making. She credits Jude Binder for helping to cultivate her artistic thirst. Cosgrove also performed in numerous productions in high school. She graduated from Calhoun High School in 2009.
