A small pre-school girl was struck Friday afternoon by a vehicle on Mount Zion Ridge,
Route 16 south of Grantsville. Calhoun's Emergency Medical Services, whose station
is nearby, quickly arrived on scene shortly after 3 p.m.
Sources at the scene said the child was about three years old.
She was taken to Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center, the nature of her injuries
unknown.
Deputy Sheriff Carl Ballengee was investigating. Sources said the driver of the vehicle
attempted to miss the child, when she apparently ran onto the highway.
They identified the parents as Frank and Jeannie Smith. Smith's house burned across
from the Old County Store a few months ago, and the Smith family moved into an
adjacent dwelling only yesterday.
The driver has yet to be identified.
