The woman accused of hitting off duty state trooper Sgt. Aaron Nichols with her car is in court for his malicious wounding.
Jennifer Garretson is also accused of shoplifting from a store in Saint Albans and then backing into Sgt. Aaron Nichols while trying to escape. The incident happened on New Years Eve.
Sgt. Nichols has been moved from the ICU, but still has a long road to recovery.
Nichols had been assigned to Wirt County.
Garretson, who authorities say was shoplifting to support her drug addiction, was on the run for two days before surrendering.
Authorities said she was hooked on morphine.
"There is no indication through any testimony that we've heard today that her intent was malicious. Only that her intent was to escape going to prison," since she was on porbation, argued her lawyer, Richard Holicker.
Her bond was set at $155,000.
