POLICE SHOOT MAN - A 45-year-old man is dead after Kanawha deputies say they were forced to shoot and kill him after he started firing at them.
He has been identified as Pete Vaughan.
Sheriff's deputies responded to domestic disturbance call about 5:30 p.m. Saturday, a report saying a man was beating up his mother on Quick Road.
When deputies arrived, they say Vaughan didn't say anything, was armed with a handgun and opened fire.
At least one of the deputies returned fire, killing the suspect.
No deputies were hurt.

MURDER SUSPECT KILLED BY POLICE - A man wanted in connection with two Logan murders earlier this week is dead after police say he pulled out a rifle at the end of a high-speed chase.
State Police Capt. D.M. Nelson said, "At the end of the pursuit Mr. Dempsey pulled his vehicle off and then exited the vehicle. When he did so he had a rifle and, when he got out of the vehicle, he pointed the rifle at the troopers at which time they responded to that threat."
Police had been looking for John Dempsey, 37, since Tuesday when 88-year-old Grover Morrison was found dead in his home.
On Thursday, Freddie Williams of the Taplin area also was murdered and State Police say they believe Dempsey was involved in that murder.
Dempsey stole a woman's car and that's when he led police on the high-speed chase.
WOMAN HELD-UP IN PARKERSBURG -
Parkersburg police responded
to Peoples Bank in reference to an
alleged robbery.
A 63 year-old Parkersburg woman said she was at the ATM inside her vehicle, when an
unknown person came from behind the machine, placed an
unknown object against her neck and asked for money.
The
suspect grabbed a blue denim bag that was sitting on the
woman's lap and fled.
HEINERS BAKERY HEIST - Huntington Police were called out to Heiner's Bakery after a man tried to rob the cashier Saturday morning.
911 dispatchers say a man walked in, pulled out a knife and demanded cash.
Police say the suspect got away.
