Max Ray Mahaney, 82, of Abilene, Texas died passed October 16, 2012, in Abilene, Texas, where services and burial followed.
Born April 18, 1930 in Calhoun County, West Virginia, son of William A.
and Ella Mahaney.
He joined the Army when he was 17 and served in the Korean War. He met his wife Billie Jean Carter while stationed in Mineral Wells, Texas. They were married June 26, 1953, and resided in Eastland. Max worked for TXI as a heavy equipment operator until he retired. He continued working doing coal mine reclamation, and for J. J. Finley, a lifelong friend. He enjoyed spending time at his farm tinkering with machinery and gardening.
Max is survived by his wife Billie; daughters, Diane Campbell and husband Ricky and Phyllis Lewis, both from Eastland; sons, Terry Mahaney and wife Brenda and Larry Mahaney and his wife Melissa, both of Mineral Wells, and Bob Mahaney and wife Jennifer of Anson; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by 4 sisters of West Virginia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, several brothers and sisters of West Virginia, and one granddaughter.
