Annetta Jane Summers, 88, passed away Dec. 7, 2012, at her apartment in the Wyngate Senior Living Community, Parkersburg, W.Va., under Hospice care.
She was born Aug. 19, 1924, in Gilmer County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine Minney.
Annetta was a graduate of Glenville State College, and had a Master's degree in Education from West Virginia University. She retired in 1975 as a teacher from the Gilmer County School System, and was a substitute teacher in Wood County for a number of years. She also held a Teaching Certificate in the State of Ohio, where she was employed as a substitute teacher. Annetta was an accomplished seamstress, cook and artist. She was a member of Grand Central Church of Christ in Vienna, W.Va.
Annetta is survived by one daughter, Rebecca Jane Conley and husband, Michael D., of Bridgeport, W.Va.; two daughters-in-law, Peggy Summers of Colombia, S.C., and Mary Jane Summers of Vienna, W.Va.; four grandchildren, Cynthia McHenry and husband, Donnie, of Bridgeport, W.Va., Melissa Moss of Columbia, S.C., Brian D. Conley and wife, Nikki, of Knoxville, Tenn., and William B. Summers of Vienna, W.Va.; five great-grandchildren, Zackary Conley, Laken Conley, Joseph Conley, Tyler Suzan McHenry and Landon McHenry; adopted granddaughter, Savannah Deal; one great-great-grandson, Isaac David Conley (son of Zachary); three brothers, Leon, Daniel and Thomas Minney; and two sisters, Lavaughn Minney and Ava Rosh.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, William Bruce Summers; two sons, Steven B. Summers and George B. Summers; seven brothers and sisters; and nine half brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday at Meadowbrook Church of Christ in Bridgeport, W.Va. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Meadow Lane Cemetery, on Route 5, three miles west of Glenville, W.Va., at Leading Creek. |
