| Virginia M. "Kit" Messenger, age 87, of Prestonsburg, KY, formerly of Linn (Gilmer County) WV, departed this life at 5:05 a.m. Sunday, November 18, 2012 at the Riverview Health Care Center following an extended illness.
She was born August 2, 1925 in Tucker County, a daughter of the late Howard Lee and Shada Wiseman Simmons.
Kit was a homemaker, loved crocheting, quilting and especially camping with family and friends. She was a member of the Oak Grove United Methodist Church at Baldwin, WV.
On May 23, 1942 she was united in marriage to Lester O. Messenger of Prestonsburg, KY.
Survivors include one son and one daughter, John W. Messenger and wife Susan of Glenville and Linda M. Woofter and husband David of Eastpoint, KY; one brother, Ralph Simmons of Weston WV; 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Gary Messenger and 3 brothers, Gloy, Robert and Elmer Simmons.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary, Inc., at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 21, 2012 with Rev. Gilbert Hart officiating. Burial will follow in the Troy I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Troy, WV. Friends may call 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, at the Mortuary.
