Benjamin J. Hickel, 75, of Spencer, WV, died July 23, 2002, in
Roane General Hospital, Spencer.
He was born July 17, 1927, in Clover, WV a son of the late Waitman and Mary Ethel
Holland Hickel. He was a former school teacher and a retired senior vice
president, director of lending and board member of the First National Bank of
Spencer. He was a charter member and elder of the Clover Community Church, a
former member of the Roane County Board of Education and a charter member
of the Journeymen Quartet. He was a member of Linden Lodge No. 83 AF &
AM and Linden Chapter No. 152, Order of the Eastern Star. He was a U.S.
Navy veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Addelene Knopp Hickel; one daughter,
Linda Taylor of Spencer; one sister, Faustine Shue of Columbus, Ohio; two
brothers, Clarence "Stub" Hickel of Clover and Edgar Hickel of Dowling Park,
FL; two granddaughters, Amy Wilson of Albuquerque, NM, and Andrea Bailey
of Spencer; three step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and several
nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Annette Hickel; one infant son, David
Hickel; and two brothers, Donald and Kenneth Hickel.
Service will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 26, 2002, at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home,
Spencer with the Rev. Leon Strickland officiating. Burial will be in the Clover
Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
