New pavilion at Upper West Fork Park
Work is rapidly progressing on the construction of a new 30 by 60 foot pavilion at the
Upper West Fork Park. Sonny Lowers, one of the organizers, said it will be ready for
the 5th Annual Firemen's Bluegrass Festival, which starts on August 8 and lasts
through the weekend.
The pavilion will provide shade and protection from rain, a much needed addition to
the festival grounds. You still have to bring your own lawn chairs.
"We're inviting out of area, out of state folks to come this year," said Lowers. "This is
the kind of music and family event many people like." The grounds have 16 hookups
and lots of parking for RV's and campers.
Dance floor will be built between pavilion and stage
The bluegrass grounds will have a new dance floor installed between the seating
area and the stage. "We'll have it ready for Lucy Marks, one of the areas greatest
cloggers," said Debbie Metheney with the Upper West Fork VFD.
Matheney said the fireworks will be much bigger and better this year, an event
scheduled for Saturday night, August 10.
Dozens of regional bluegrass bands are scheduled to perform.
