Dorothy passed away at Walton, West Virginia, on October 16, 2012 at the age of 94 with her sisters by her side. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rollie C. Smith and Alta Wright Smith; her husband, Clarence "Pete" Daugherty; and a half-sister, Blondena Graham.
Dorothy was a born again Christian and attended Walton Union Church for over 70 years. She worked with the young people, taught a Sunday School class, and was secretary and treasurer for many years. She was on the building committee and was very active in raising money to build the new church in 1962. Her love for the Lord was why she was such a worker in the church. Dorothy was a great Prayer Warrior and always witnessed to people about serving the Lord. She was always ready to help people in any way she could. Dorothy loved to quilt and she helped to quilt at the church to make money for things needed at the church.
Dorothy retired from the U. S. Postal Service with 31 years of service and was a member of Walton Rebekah Lodge #25 for 66 years.
She is survived by two sisters, Violet Whited of Spencer, West Virginia and Geraldine Ashworth of Walton; and a half-sister, Sandy Barnhouse of Walton.
The family would like to say a special thank you to the hospice care nurses-Trista, Joan, Jetta, Richie, Amber, Lisa, and Amanda. They were so helpful and showed the family so much love and were a real blessing.

A funeral service will be at 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at the Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home in Spencer with Pastors Jerry Board and Jerry Malona officiating. Burial will follow in the Rocky Branch Cemetery near Walton. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
