Twelve 4-H and FFA members participated in the Calhoun County 4-H & FFA Livestock Show and Sale, September 29.
Students began weighing in the animal projects shortly after 8:00 a.m. with the assistance of weigh-master Jason Nettles. Animal Placement was set for 10:00 a.m. as Judge Cassie Brown placed the animals to determine champions for each class. This would determine the sale order later in the afternoon.
Showmanship awards were given out at 3:00 p.m. leading up to the sale at 5:00 p.m. Ed Winters of Millwood, WV was the auctioneer.
Angel Samples sold her 227 pound Grand Champion Swine project to Cain Vet Clinic at $5.75 per pound, totaling $1305.25. Cain Vet clinic donated this animal for re-sale giving proceeds to the livestock program which sold for $329.15. The pig was purchased by Roane General Hospital.
Jessica Summers sold her 255 pound Reserve Champion Swine project to Vineyard Farms at $4.50 per pound, totaling $1147.50.
Austin Coon sold his 226 pound choice graded Swine project to Roane General Hospital at $3.00 per pound, totaling $678.
Kody Schultz sold his 149 pound Grand Champion Sheep project to Southern States of Spencer at $$3.85 per pound, totaling $$573.65. Kody's sheep was re-sold after the sale for $149 to Woolweaver Farms.
Christopher Schultz sold his 118 pound Reserve Champion Sheep project to Nettles Equipment at $3.60 per pound, totaling $424.80.
Cole Vineyard sold his 663 pound Grand Champion Heifer to Southern States of Spencer at $4.10 per pound totaling $2718.30.
Josh Summers sold his 613 pound Reserve Champion Heifer to JSC Enterprises at $3.35 per pound, totaling $2053.55.
Kelsey Jett sold her 434 pound choice graded Heifer to Calhoun Banks at $4.10 per pound, totaling $1779.40.
Angel Bee sold her 401 pound choice graded Heifer to Vineyard Farms at $4.50 per pound, totaling $1804.50.
Trent Cottrell sold his 802 pound Grand Champion Steer to Southern States of Spencer at $4.25 per pound, totaling $2975.00.
Brooke Nicholson sold her 577 pound Reserve Champion Steer to Houchin Construction at $3.20 per pound, totaling $1846.40.
Candace Conrad sold her 593 pound choice graded Steer to Francis Cain Farm at $3.90 per pound, totaling $2312.70. Francis Cain Farm donated this animal for re-sale giving proceeds to the livestock program which sold for $1037.75. The steer was purchased by Jason Nettles.
