Richard H. (Rick) McCartney, 65, of the Pine Creek Community, Grantsville, WV died Sept. 14, 2012 at his home after an extended illness resulting from exposure to agent orange during the Vietnam War.
He was born May 4, 1947 on Pine Creek Road, the son of Hester B. McCartney and the late Rood P. McCartney.
Rick was a United States Army veteran, having proudly served in the Vietnam War.
He was a retired professional surveyor for Trumbull Corporation, was a member of Victory Baptist Church, and a member of the Eureka Lodge #40 AF & AM.
He was always eager to help his neighbors and volunteer at the Molasses Festival.
Rick is survived by his wife, Connie (Marks) McCartney; son, Robert "Scott" McCartney and wife Carla; granddaughters, Danielle Rose and Rebecca Cheyenne McCartney all of Parkersburg; brother, Robert McCartney and wife Linda of Arnoldsburg; mother-in-law, Mable Marks of Grantsville and several nieces, nephews, and a special family friend, Steve "Dude" Reynolds.
Rick gave the greatest gift to others - he donated his body to the WVU Gift Registry for scientific research.
Friends and family are invited to attend the celebration of his life at the memorial service to be held Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012 at the Victory Baptist Church at Grantsville beginning at noon.
