The West Virginia Department of Natural Resources is surveying deer population in localized areas of Calhoun, according to Jeff McCrady, District Wildlife Biologist.
Other counties are likely involved.
Officials will be driving through areas from public highways to get a count, and will be using spotlights at night.
"The survey will not involve officers going onto private property," said McCrady.
The survey started on August 13 and will run through September 19.
