This program is designed for anyone who interacts with veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan and their families.
This FREE program is scheduled for April 18 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Days Inn Conference Center Flatwood, WV (Lunch is provided).
The target audience is Primary Care Providers, Behavioral Health/Mental Health Providers, Law Enforcement, Clergy, School Personnel, Domestic Violence Personnel.
Health professionals attending will learn how to apply clinical skills to work with veterans and their families. Participants will learn to:
1. Describe the scope of the problem.
2. Translate the current knowledge of trauma and PTSD into a combat/military context.
3. Create and maintain a therapeutic alliance with combat veterans and their families from assessment through treatment.
Faculty:
* Dr. Harold Kudler, MD
Dr. Kudler is Associate Director of the VA's Mid‐Atlantic Mental Illness Research,
Education, and Clinical Center (MIRECC) for Deployment Mental Health and Associate
Professor at Duke University. He co‐led development of the joint VA/
Department of Defense Guideline for the Management of Postraumatic Stress and,
from 2000‐2005, co‐chaired the VA Under Secretary's Special Committee on PTSD
which reports to Congress on VA's clinical, research, education and benefits programs
on PTSD. He serves on the Board of the International Society for Traumatic
Stress Studies and is advisor to Sesame Street's Talk Listen Connect series for military
families.
