The Calhoun Commission has received a check for $24,635 from the
Synthetic Fuels Non-Producing Counties Fund, after a bill was passed by the
legislature in 2001 designating the allocation.
The Commission is required, under statute, to "first use such moneys for
regional jail and correctional authority and county jail expenses, and may
use any remainder for such lawful purpose as the county commission may
prescribe."
The amount will be credited to Calhoun's regional jail bill, which will
currently reduce it to about $50,000.
