Fred Ira McCroskey, 76, of Spencer, West Virginia died July 16, 2012 at the Roane General Hospital in Spencer after a long illness.
He was born May 16, 1936 in Spencer a son of the late Harvey "William" and Thelma Phillips McCroskey. He worked for over 40 years in the oilfield business retiring from Clint Hurt to own and operate the Malibu Bar & Grill in Spencer. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Fred is survived by two daughters, Teresa McCroskey, who was his caretaker, and Tammy Smith Sovine Holzworth and her husband, John of Alexandria, Virginia; one son, Robbie Smith of Spencer; one sister, Freeda Jo Taylor of Spencer; one brother, Bill McCroskey of Spencer; and eight grandchildren, Doug and Greg Smith of Spencer, Tara Burns of Spencer, Spc. Matthew Sovine of Ft. Drum, New York, Ben Sovine of Alexandria, Ashleigh, J. Michael, and Zack Holzworth all of Alexandria; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by four brothers, Bruce, Robert, John and Jack Mcroskey.
Per his request, the body was cremated. There will be a graveside memorial service at 6:30pm on Saturday, July 28, 2012 at the Wright Cemetery on Charles Fork Lake Road in Spencer.
Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home, Spencer, is in charge of arrangements.
