Unemployed veterans looking for a job, the government is stepping in to help.
The Veterans Retraining Assistance Program will offer up to 12 months of training assistance to unemployed vets.
Vets need to be between 35 and 60 years old, and not be eligible for another VA education benefit program.
Military programs coordinator Cory Payne says, "With all the layoffs that are happening around the state... this is the perfect opportunity to get retrained and employable."
Act fast, because the program is limited to 45,000 participants from July 1, 2012, through September 30, 2012, and 54,000 participants from October 1, 2012, through March 31, 2014.
You can get up to 12 months of assistance equal to the monthly full-time payment rate under the Montgomery GI Bill-Active Duty program.
The program must lead to an associate degree, non-college degree, or a certificate.
