Theme: Anything to do with recycling and/or saving the earth.
Who can enter: Anyone can enter in one of five categories: grades K - 2, grades 3 - 5, middle school grades 6, 7, 8, high school, and adult (all categories are based on the grade level the child just finished for the school year 2011 - 2012).
Prizes: First, Second, and Third Place winners in each category will receive a ribbon and have their posters displayed at Cabot Recycling Station for one month and Mom's Place Too (the new restaurant in Grantsville) for one month. First Place winner in each category will also receive $10.00.
Poster size: 11 x 14 inches. Blank posters will be available for free at Mom's Place Too, Arnoldsburg Elementary School, Pleasant Hill Elementary School, Calhoun Middle/High School, Chloe Hardware store, and Cabot Recycling Station (Tues & Thurs 8-4, Sat 8-noon). Entrants can also buy their own poster if they wish. Blank Posters and art supplies will be available at the Calhoun County Solid Waste Authority booth from 10-5 during the Wood Festival for those who want to do their poster there.
When: Contest starts May 10. Deadline is 5:00 pm Saturday, June 2. Finished posters can be dropped off at Mom's Place Too, Chloe Hardware, Cabot Recycling Station, or the Calhoun County Solid Waste Authority booth during the Wood Festival. Finished posters can also be dropped off at Arnoldsburg Elementary School, Pleasant Hill Elementary School, and Calhoun Middle/High School in care of Amanda Morris, but only until May 21. Winners will be notified the week of June 4th.
Posters can be in any medium, including chalk, crayon, colored pencil, collages, digital, charcoal, paint, sharpie, pencil, or pen.
All posters must have the artist's name, address, age, and phone number on the back so that winners can be notified. Judging will be done by the Calhoun County Solid Waste Authority Board of Directors. Immediate family members of Calhoun County Solid Waste Authority members or employees are not eligible to win.
