Monday's meeting of the Board of Education will hear a report regarding the impact of a Mt. Zion PSD Boil Water Advisory on Calhoun Middle-High School and Arnoldsburg Elementary School.
The WV Office of Environmental Health in Charleston issued the order effective May 3rd because the Mt. Zion PSD does not have a certified water operator.
"We have no assurance that the public's health is being protected," said David Cobb, Supervising Engineer.
As long as the advisory is in effect,
students can't drink the water at the schools.
"We are buying drinking water,"
Donnie Pitts, Director of Support
Services for Calhoun schools, told Spencer Newspapers.
Pitts said Broughton's is supplying
6-1/2 oz. bottles for drinking water,
with gallon jugs purchased for use in
the two school kitchens.
"We have no idea how long this
is going to go on," Pitts said. "It's
costing us between $200 and $300
a day."
The board will hear updates on the construction of the new Arnoldsburg Elementary School and the new air conditioning system installed at Calhoun Middle-High School's gyms, reportedly to be ready for the graduation ceremony on May 18.
The board will recognize the Calhoun Middle/High School WVSSAC Band Ratings and Kelley Houchin, Head Varsity Volleyball Coach.
The board will process the retirement of long-time county educator Bob Bonar, who is currently principal at Pleasant Hill Elementary School.
On the agenda, a large number of employment items for summer programs.
