David Michael "Mike" Downs, 66, of Spencer, West Virginia, died at 5:15 p.m. Saturday, April 21, 2012 in CAMC - Memorial Hospital, Charleston.
He was born August 15, 1945, in Spencer, a son of the late Burl and Marie Cogar Downs.
Mike was a member and retired business agent of Local 132, International Union of Operating Engineers, Charleston. He was a member of Linden Lodge No. 83, A.F. and A.M., Linden; the Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Charleston; Beni Kedem Temple, A.A.O.N.M.S., Charleston, where he was also a member of the Oriental Band; and the Linden Chapter No. 152, O.E.S. He was also a member of the Bear Fork Hunting Clubs in Elkins and in Calhoun County. Mike enjoyed camping, fly fishing and especially his active participation in the local and state Democrat Party.
Survivors include his wife, Viola S. Downs of Spencer; daughters and sons-in-law, Valerie and Terry Rexroad of Spencer, Vilsia and Doug Conrad of Gassaway, Paula and J.R. Duke of Ohio; son and daughter-in-law, Michael A. and Krista Downs of Pennsylvania; 10 grandchildren and two great grandchildren; brother, Mark Downs of Spencer; aunt, Margaret Snodgrass of Ohio; uncle, Richard Cogar of Spencer.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 25 at 11:00 a.m. in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Daniel R. "Danny" Whited officiating. Burial, with Masonic graveside rites, will be in the Clover Cemetery, Clover.
Friends may call Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home, where an Eastern Star memorial service will be held at 6:15 p.m.
