Herbert Philip "Sako" Sussman, 77, of Spencer, West Virginia, died March 17, 2012, at his home.
He was born July 7, 1934 in Jersey City, NJ, a son of the late Harry and Jennie Sussman.
Sako was a chef and a painter. He received his training in art and traveled extensively around the United States in his younger years selling his work as a paint and print artist. In 1983, he moved to Spencer, to live a simple, sustainable life close to the land, gardening organically and using nature as inspiration for his water color paintings.
Sako is survived by four brothers, Seymour, David, Sidney and Gerald; a sister, Muriel; six nieces and eight nephews.
A gathering of family and friends to celebrate and remember his life was held Monday evening, April 16 in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer. He was cremated and his cremated remains were buried on his farm beneath a newly planted tree.
