Melvin P. Schoolcraft, age 82 of Dalton, Ohio, passed away surrounded by loved ones on March 27, 2012.
He was born on July 29, 1929 in Calhoun County, WV to Peter and Sarah (Cottrell) Schoolcraft.
A resident of Dalton for 35 years, he retired from Quality Castings in Orrville after 39 years. He was a member of Ebenizer Baptist Church in Calhoun County, WV and the Orville Sportsman Club.
Melvin was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed music and gardening.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marie Nicolas; brother in law, Okeydale McCumbers; he is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Darlie; daughters, Patricia (Erik) Erb of Marshallville, Judy (Lyle) Hartshorn; son, Preston Schoolcraft of Orrville; grandchildren, Alyssa and Aidan Erb, Jessica and Justin Hartshorn; sisters, Audrie McCumbers of Calhoun County, WV, Dolly (Charles) King of Newton Falls, OH, Molly (Chester) Cain of Calhoun County, WV; brother, Willard (Norma) Schoolcraft of Wooster, brother in law, Ronzel Nicolas; many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Denver and Cheryl McCumbers and Charlie and Dorma Crites for all their support during this time.
Funeral service will be held Friday, March 30 at 7 p.m. at the Zak-Thacker & Monbarren Funeral Home, 29 E. Main "St., Dalton, OH 44618. Phil Buchwalter, officiating. A private internment will be held on Monday. Friends may call one hour prior to service time.
