Rex F. Hardman, 89, of Buckhannon, formerly of Glenville, passed away March 10, 2012, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va.
He was born June 8, 1922, near Lockney, W.Va., a son of the late Mack and Lora Meadows Hardman. He was also preceded in death by his six brothers, Harper, Lyle, Glen, Lee, Vance and Troy Hardman.
Surviving is his wife of 65 years, Lorene Britton Hardman of Buckhannon; a daughter, Shirley Lundell and her husband, Rodger, of Buckhannon; three grandsons, Brian Lundell and his wife, Icle, of Germany, Eric Lundell and his wife, Sandy, of Alexandria, Va., and Rex Lundell of Buckhannon; and two great-grandchildren, Abby Naughton of Buckhannon and Vincent Lundell of Midlothian, Va.
Mr. Hardman graduated from Normantown High School in 1941. He graduated from Glenville State College in 1951 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education and graduated from WVU in 1957 with a Master of Arts Degree in Education.
He retired from the education system in Gilmer County after being a teacher, vice principal, principal and Gilmer County Superintendent of Schools in 1979.
He and his wife then enjoyed their winter months in central Florida for 20 years and then recently moved to Buckhannon. Mr. Hardman was a veteran and served in the Air Corps during World War II. He was a member of the VFW and Lions Club for many years while living in Gilmer County.
Funeral services for Mr. Hardman were held March 17 at Glenville Baptist Church, Glenville. He was buried in Meadow Lane Cemetery with graveside military funeral honors by Lewis County Honor Guard.
