New turning lanes will provide safer access to Calhoun Middle/High School. The
widening and turning lanes will be constructed by the West Virginia Department of
Transportation, which acquired property belonging to Dorothy Nester on May 20,
2002.
The new lanes will be added to State Route 16 in front of the school complex.
The highway department has paid Dorothy Nester almost $70,000 for what appears to
be about four acres of land, or $17,500 an acre. Nester reserved the oil and gas rights
under the acreage, according to the deed.
The highway department has not announced when construction will begin.
