Larry Joe Shafer of Glenville, WV unexpectedly fell asleep in death on February 9, 2012. He was born August 23, 1942 to Glen and Alvie Shafer of Clendenin, WV.
Preceded in death by his father, Glen Debs Shafer, and by his two sisters, Anna Maye and Glenna Faye Shafer.
Survived by his wife of 47 years, Carol Ann Shafer; by his mother, Alvie Shafer of Clendenin, WV; by his brother and wife, Tom and Barbara Shafer of Clendenin, WV; by his son and wife, Christopher Joe and Nannette Shafer of Winfield, WV; by his son Glen Scott Shafer of Clendenin, WV; by his son and wife, Jamie Madison and Melinda Shafer of Elkins, WV; and by his grandchildren Anna, Daniel, Olivia, Britani, Megan and Tyler and his great granddaughter Jayden.
Larry Joe graduated from Clendenin High School in Kanawha County, WV. He married Carol Ann Hendrixon on June 20, 1964. They began their marriage in Warbutton Hollow where they had three sons. He resided with his family on Gabes Creek Rd. in Clendenin until 1998. He and his wife then relocated to Glenville, WV until the time of his death. His sons in time gave Larry Joe and Carol Ann grandchildren, Anna, Daniel, Olivia, Britani, Megan and Tyler.
Larry Joe loved to be busy caring for others. He took pride in the maintenance of his home and of his vehicles. He worked for Shafer Pipeline and then joined Columbia Gas Transmission working as a welder and inspector while living in Clendenin. He also worked for Waco Oil and Gas after he came to Glenville. His work ethic transcended his secular career and manifest itself in all aspects of life. He always joked, " I can sleep when I get old." He never did decide that he was old. At 69 years of age he was still working diligently around his home until the day he died.
He made the world brighter for having lived. He will be painfully missed.
A Memorial Service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February the 18th at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Glenville, WV. Minister and friend, Ben Morgan will be conducting the services.
