Gloria E. Snyder age 88, of Glenville West Virginia departed this life on Monday February 6, 2012 at the Crestview Manor, Jane Lew, West Virginia, following an extended illness.
Born July 25, 1923 in Connecticut, daughter of the late Walter and Clara Plassman Elwood.
Gloria attended Ludlow High School in Fairfield, CT. During World War II she was a buyer for Howland's Department Store in Miami, Florida, where she met her first husband, John Connell. After the war she work with her family in the Restaurant business for many years. It was here that she met and married her second husband, Thomas Kilcourse, after his death she moved to Glenville, WV, to be closer to her oldest son and his family.
In the early 80's she opened "Gloria's Country Kitchen" on Main Street in Glenville. After the close of that business, she met and married Victor Snyder and resided in Florida and upon his death, she returned to Glenville. She was active with the Senior Companion Program and later with the Gilmer County Senior Citizen Center. One of her proudest moments was being the Gilmer County Folk Festival Belle in 2001. Gloria was a lifelong Catholic and Member of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church.
Surviving are 2 sons and 1 daughter; Kenneth Connell and wife Judy of Glenville, Thomas Kilcourse and wife Dina of Warrenton, Virginia, and Kathleen Kilcourse of Lake Zurich, Illinois. There are 8 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren also surviving.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church on Friday, February 10, 2012 at 10:00 a.m., with Father Chuck McGinnis officiating. Burial will follow in the Good Shepherd Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Ellyson Mortuary Inc. Glenville.
