The Appalachian Classic will conduct a special memorial service for Morgantown
resident Sgt. Gene Vance. Vance, killed in Afghanistan, had been a participant in the
Appalachian Classic at Calhoun County Park.
This year's bike race has been dedicated to his memory.
The service will be held about 11:20 a.m. Sunday and the public is invited. A bike trail
will be named in his honor.
The Classic kicks-off today, bringing a huge number of racers to the park. Tonight is
entertainment evening, with bands performing on the giant stage.
Coordinator Donnie Price says "We hope folks will come out for the event and enjoy
the day."
