"It woke up the neighbors," a report from Linden, Roane County. Columbia Natural Resources well near Flat Run (Sam's Run) about one mile from the Calhoun County line came in early Sunday morning. The operation involved several months of drilling. It is the sixth well drilled in Roane by Columbia, putting regional deep well drilling on the map.

Calhoun County has over 20 deep well permits issued, with the first expected to be drilled in short order. A joint venture between Cabot-Trio Petroleum, according to local gas producers, will locate on the Ray Yoak property in the White Pine area. "The well is expected to slant under the Coleman Burrows property," they said. Trio Petro is associated with Ike Morris, Glenville oil and gas producer.

Producers say most of Columbia's deep wells report 8,000,000 (million) cubic feet a day production which translates into $88,000 a day sales ($11 per thousand) or over two and one-half million dollars a month per well.

Four of Columbia's wells in Roane are in production, including the Parker, Jackson, Epling and Tawney wells. A fifth well, Vineyard is on hold. The Linden well off Flat Run reportedly came in big.
