Lloyd E. "Gene" Batten, 80, of Spencer, WV, died Wednesday, June 5, 2002, in Roane General Hospital, Spencer, after a
short illness.
He was born March 1, 1922, in Spencer, a son of the late John James and Bertha Loutechia Black Batten. He was a retired
machinist, Army veteran of W.W.II, and member of the Living Church of God, Ripley, WV.
Survivors include a son, Charles Edward Batten of Atlanta, Georgia; sisters, Audra Shields and Edna Starcher both of
Spencer and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Sue Batten; brothers, Robert F. and Richard "Dick"
Batten and sister, Addie Florence Miller.
A funeral service will be conducted Sunday, June 9 at 2 p.m. at the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer. Pastor
Val Burgett will officiate. Burial will be Monday, June 10 at 1 p.m. in the WV National Cemetery, Pruntytown, WV. Friends
may call at the funeral home from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday.
