A former Spencer man, Dreu Ferguson, 35, who was charged with two murders in that community, has now been charged with the murder of his father in New Jersey.
Ferguson had been investigated by NJ police over the death of his 58-year-old father, whose body was discovered in a shallow grave in 2009. Authorities said they did not have sufficient evidence at the time to move the case ahead.
Ferguson came to the Spencer community in 1997 with his pregnant wife Jessica.
He and his wife were both charged in the death of their infant, both were acquitted on the charges.
In 2003, while Ferguson was out on bond, he admitted shooting and killing his neighbor William Freas III, who was sitting on his front porch on Beauty Street, a block from the town's Main Street.
Ferguson claimed Freas stole items from his house.
Ferguson was tried twice for murder in the death of Freas, the first trial declared a mistrial because a law dictionary was brought into the jury room.
In a second trial in Mason County, Ferguson was convicted of voluntary manslaughter and sentenced to 15 years, a conviction that was overturned.
He had served five years when he was released.
