L. Oral Cunningham, age 90 of Whiting Ave., Glenville, West Virginia, departed this life at 7:11 a.m., Sunday,
November 6, 2011 at St. Joseph Hospital, Buckhannon following a brief illness.
He was born December 21, 1920 in Gilmer County a son of the late Floyd
L. and Jessie Waldo Cunningham.
Oral was a graduate of Glenville High School Class of 1940; he was an Army Air Corp Veteran of World War II where he was a trained airplane mechanic.
During his early years he worked for Judge Marsh at the Pictureland Theater in Glenville running the movie projector and reels. This experience allowed him to head all movie pictures for the military men he served with.
He has been employed by Philadelphia Oil Co. and Mon Power before becoming manager of Calhoun Super Service for 38 years.
Mr. Cunningham was a very active member of the Glenville Lions Club where you could always find him at the Lion's Club hotdog stand during their sponsored carnival and WV State Folk Festival. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church but attend the Church of God of Prophecy at Sand Fork.
He loved sitting in his yard talking to his friends. He was an avid clock and watch collector, tinkered with small engines (lawn mowers) and was a wood worker.
On August 20, 1949 he was united in marriage to Mary Jo Ellyson Cunningham who survives at their Whiting Ave. home.
One son survives, Phillip H. "Phil" Cunningham and wife Luann of Glenville; one grandson, Christopher Cunningham of Glenville and one brother, Chester "Bud" Cunningham of Barnsville OH.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 10, 2011 at the Ellyson Mortuary, Inc., Glenville with Pastor Bryan Groves officiating. Burial will follow in the Meadow Lane Cemetery, Glenville. Friends may call 4-8 p.m., Wednesday at the Mortuary.
